INFORMATION for MEMBERS

  • NEXT DEADLINE: 20 Feb 2012 for
    • Folklife West Nš 33, published 1 Apr 2012
    • includes Folklife West Journal

Overview / Future plans

I have edited a folk magazine over 30 years (Folklife West's predecessors Broadsheet / Somers Journal published & subsidised by Somers Trad Folk Club). I have learned that rapid huge changes don't work - witness the demise of some respected specialised print magazines after being available in WHSmiths! Instead we continue to improve our magazine at a manageable rate, and thank readers for their kind and encouraging comments ("Congratulations! It's an amazing magazine!").

  • The magazines have never run at a profit, and are not expected to, given that mostly news, not adverts and reviews. So thanks to our Members for their support.
  • We have been working on expanding Folk West, now renamed Folklife West. It has doubled in size over last 5 years.
  • Folklife West publishers have produced various publications, we are now combining these (we've always wanted to, but didn't have the technology to support bigger magazines).
