17/7/09: Re Glosfolk article, p15,
- "The Government has rejected almost all of the recommendations of the DCMS Select Committee that has been looking into the effects of the Licensing Act. In particular for the folk community, the very sensible (in my view) Select Committee proposal to exempt small venues (less than 200) from the need to have a licence, and to re-introduce the 'two in a bar' exemption, was rejected out of hand. This means that almost all of the Village/Community/Church Hall events that many of us perform at are currently illegal, because they do not apply for, or get a licence, as are many of the Mummers Play Performances, and House Concerts. Glosfolk have written and e-mailed all six Gloucestershire MPs on your behalf, protesting at this. What I would urge you to do, is to write or e-mail your MP NOW. Ask them to lobby DCMS asking them to accept and adopt the Select Committee proposals. If you are not sure who is your MP, you can find out at: www.parliament.uk/mpslordsandoffices If you get a response, positive or negative, please let us know. Regards, Peter Cripps, Chairman, GLOSFOLK. www.glosfolk.org.uk

5/8/09, Forest Folk Club, p14
- Press Release: New Sunday night slot! The Forest’s only Folk and Acoustic club now has its home at the Miners Arms, Whitecroft, near Lydney. This is truly the best venue the club has ever had; the function room has great acoustics, a proper platform stage and a warm and friendly atmosphere. From August 16th we will be holding our sessions on a Sunday evening, the first and third Sundays in each month. Doors open at 7.30pm for an 8.00pm start. Our autumn line up of guests is amazing (see advert/website). We welcome floor spots, and especially want to encourage new acts to our “singers’ nights”, where they can be assured of a warm welcome and an attentive and appreciative audience. All acoustic music, contemporary or traditional, is welcomed. Go to our website at www.forestfolkclub.com for more details, or email Jan at jan.b (insert the at sign) eos.gb.com to ask more about floor spots on singers’ nights.
